East Coast Itinerary – Part 1 (New Brunswick)

Month: July

Provinces: New Brunswick (Part 1), Prince Edward Island (Part 2), Nova Scotia (Part 3)

Cities: Fredericton, Moncton, Charlottetown, Sydney, Halifax, Peggy’s Cove & Lunenburg

Time: 10 Days

Day 1: Explore Fredericton –> Drive to Moncton

Take half a day to Explore Fredericton, NB.  Parking is available behind City hall on York St. for $1:00 per hour; or $9:00 daily maximum.  For other parking in Fredericton, click here.  Fredericton is a small town, and you can walk around to all of the sites quite easily.

Go for a walk along Queen St. to find Fredericton City Hall, Federal Building, Fredericton Playhouse, New Brunswick Legislative Building, and much more.  You can attend the Farmer’s Market and enjoy some delicious food.  There’s also some cute cafes and boutiques on Queen St.

Main Highlight of Fredericton is the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge built in 1889 as a train bridge over the St. John River connecting the north and south sides of Fredericton.

Once you’ve taken in all that Fredericton has to offer, hop into your car, you’re on your way to Moncton, NB.

Day 2: Explore Moncton

Moncton is a small town, but a nice spot for a break during the East Coast drive.

Where to Stay in Moncton, NB:

  • Residence Inn by Marriott Moncton
  • Delta Hotels by Marriott Beausejour
  • Chateau Moncton Hotel & Suites

Where to Eat in Moncton, NB:

  • Tide & Boar: Award winning pub with some of the best summer BBQ’s and patio
  • Pump House Brewery: Has an outdoor patio with good food

What to do in Moncton, NB:

  • Magnetic Hill: This wasn’t as thrilling as I expected, but a good spot to visit if you have some time to spare.
  • Tidal Bore: Have you ever seen water travel upstream? Well, this is your opportunity to experience it at the Bore View Park. The tidal wave phenomenon through the Bay of Fundy only happens twice a day, so be sure to check the tidal bore times  to catch the tide on time!!
  • Explore downtown Moncton (Main St.)
  • Visit the Riverfront Park

What to wear:

  • Comfortable shoes
  • Light jacket/cardigan
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen

Day 3:  Depart Moncton –> Explore Hopewell Rocks –> Drive to Charlottetown

Hopewell Rocks are approximately half an hour from Moncton.  At Hopewell Rocks you are able to canoe in the ocean water and later walk on that same ocean floor.  This happens due to the high, and low tides that happens twice a day.  You will have to plan depending on which tide you prefer to see first.  Click here for tide schedule.    Also, please check hours of operations here.  There is an entrance fee to Hopewell Rocks.

There’s a lot of walking through nature in this area. It’s so serene and beautiful.  Be sure to visit all of the viewpoints.  There are also 2 sandy beach areas at each end of the park.

Where to eat:

  • High Tide Cafe: We had some delicious fish and chips at this restaurant while enjoying the views of The Bay of Fundy from the patio.
  • Low Tide Cafe: Located near the beach offering snacks and refreshments. Not full meals.
  • Picnic: If you are interested in having your own picnic, there are quite a few picnic tables available in the area.

What to do:

  • Walk through the park
  • Visit all viewpoints
  • Walk on the ocean floor (be sure to walk back up before the high tide comes)
  • Canoe in the ocean

What to wear:

  • Comfortable shoes
  • Light jacket/cardigan
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen

Note: There are two ways to enter and exit PEI; Confederation Bridge or Ferry.  We used the bridge both times because 1) it was fun to drive on the longest bridge in the world crossing ice-covered water (checked off the bucket list) 2) no need to wait or plan for ferry times

Let’s go to PEI, next!! (coming soon)

Trip to the Falls!

Niagara Falls – connecting Ontario, Canada and New York, USA is made up for 3 waterfalls.

Niagara Falls was created approximately 1000 years ago with glacier activity.  Niagara falls produces the highest flow rate of any waterfall on earth.  Every time I visit Niagara Falls, I feel a bit nostalgic.  Every time someone visited us from anywhere, we would take them to the falls, have a picnic, walk around, watch the fireworks, and have the most wonderful time.

A few of my favorite things to enjoy in Niagara Falls are:

– Walk around by the falls
